Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the team access locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
