Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate 51 million watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this represents the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match series drew over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete American average reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 various languages.
