Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
